Children's West African Dance

Monday, 4 - 5 p.m.
Age: 5 - 8
Level: Introductory
Introduction to the thrill of West African dance experience for children
ages 5 - 8 through the study of basic performance skills of traditional
dances, songs, and children rhymes and games from the West African
countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin.
(This class culminates into a fun-filled student performance or recital
at the end of spring semester and is a transitional course for entry into
Youth West African dance class)
Beginning Youth West African Dance

Monday 5 - 6 p.m.
Age: 9 - 13
Level: Beginning
Beginning lessons for youth ages 9 - 13 in the development of skills and
techniques of performing authentic traditional dances from the West
African countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin. This is a higher level class
of Children West African dance class and is more demanding in terms of
skill development, repertoire development and performance ready
preparations
(This class culminates into a fun-filled student performance or recital
at the end of the spring semester and is a transitional course for entry
into Youth West African Music And Dance Ensemble activities)
Beginning Teens/Adult West African Dance

Tuesday 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Age: 14+
Level: Beginning
Beginning lessons for teens and adults ages 14 + in the development of
skills and techniques of performing authentic traditional dances from the
West African countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin. This class is a teen and
adult version of Youth West African dance class and is a transitional
requirement for entry into the performing Youth West African Music And
Dance Ensemble.
(This class culminates into a fun-filled student performance or recital
at the end of the spring semester and is a transitional course for entry
into Youth West African Music And Dance Ensemble activities)
West African Drumming

Friday 5 - 6 p.m.
Age: 12+
Level: Beginning/Intermediate/Advance
Exploration of sacred and secular traditional drumming from the West
African countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin. This is a demanding class for
serious African drumming students.
(Instructor's consent is required)
Intermediate/Advance Teens/Adult West African Dance

Friday 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Age: 14+
Level: Intermediate/Advance
Exploration of sacred and secular traditional dances from the West African
countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin accompanied by live music. This is a
demanding intermediate and advance level class for serious dancers and
choreography students.
(Two semesters of Beginning Youth West African or Beginning Teens/Adult
West African and Instructor's consent is required)
